Welcome to Southern California Robotics League Inc ("SCRL," "we," "us," or "our"). These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of our website located at southerncaliforniaroboticsleague.com and all related services, programs, and events (collectively, the "Services").

By accessing or using our Services, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use our Services.

2. Eligibility and User Requirements

2.1 Age Requirements

Our robotics programs are designed for students aged 12-18. Users under 13 must have parental or guardian consent to participate. By using our Services, you represent that:

  • You are at least 13 years old, or have parental/guardian consent
  • You have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms
  • All information you provide is accurate and truthful

2.2 Account Registration

Team registration and participation in our programs may require creating an account. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate, current, and complete information
  • Maintain and update your account information
  • Maintain the security of your account credentials
  • Accept responsibility for all activities under your account
  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use

3. License and Access Rights

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, SCRL grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use our Services for personal, non-commercial purposes related to participation in our robotics programs.

This license does not include the right to:

  • Modify, copy, or create derivative works of our content
  • Reverse engineer or decompile any part of our Services
  • Use our Services for commercial purposes without permission
  • Remove or alter any proprietary notices

4. Prohibited Uses and Conduct

You agree not to use our Services to:

  • Violate any applicable laws, regulations, or third-party rights
  • Engage in fraudulent, deceptive, or misleading practices
  • Impersonate any person or entity
  • Collect or harvest user information without consent

4.2 Harmful Activities

  • Upload or transmit viruses, malware, or harmful code
  • Interfere with or disrupt our Services or servers
  • Attempt unauthorized access to our systems
  • Use automated systems (bots, scrapers) without permission

4.3 Inappropriate Content

  • Post offensive, harassing, or discriminatory content

5. Intellectual Property Rights

5.1 Our Content

6. Competition and Event Participation

6.1 Registration and Fees

Participation in competitions and events requires registration and payment of applicable fees. Registration fees are non-refundable except as required by law or at SCRL's sole discretion.

6.2 Competition Rules

All participants must:

  • Follow all competition rules and guidelines
  • Respect judges' decisions (decisions are final)
  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship and ethical behavior
  • Comply with safety regulations
  • Accept responsibility for their robot and equipment

6.3 Liability and Assumption of Risk

Participation in robotics activities involves inherent risks. By participating, you acknowledge and accept these risks. SCRL is not responsible for injuries, property damage, or losses incurred during events, except as required by law.

7. Termination and Suspension

SCRL reserves the right to suspend or terminate your access to our Services at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice, for any reason including:

  • Violation of these Terms
  • Fraudulent or illegal activity
  • Conduct that harms SCRL or other users
  • Non-payment of fees
  • Violation of competition rules

Upon termination, your right to use our Services will immediately cease. Terms that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including intellectual property provisions, disclaimers, and limitations of liability.

8. Disclaimers and Warranties

IMPORTANT LEGAL NOTICE

OUR SERVICES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, SCRL disclaims all warranties, including but not limited to:

  • Warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose
  • Warranties regarding the accuracy, reliability, or completeness of content
  • Warranties that our Services will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure
  • Warranties that defects will be corrected

SCRL does not guarantee any specific outcomes or results from participation in our programs. Success in competitions depends on many factors including team effort, skill development, and preparation.

9. Limitation of Liability

LIMITATION OF DAMAGES

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SCRL SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OUR SERVICES.

In no event shall SCRL's total liability to you for all claims related to our Services exceed the amount you paid to SCRL in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $100, whichever is greater.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you. In such cases, SCRL's liability will be limited to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless SCRL, its officers, directors, employees, agents, and affiliates from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from:

  • Your use or misuse of our Services
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any third-party rights
  • Your conduct at events or competitions
  • Any content you submit or share

11. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

11.1 Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

11.2 Venue

You agree that any legal action or proceeding arising from these Terms shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Orange County, California.

11.3 Dispute Resolution

In the event of a dispute, you agree to first attempt to resolve it informally by contacting us at help@southerncaliforniaroboticsleague.com. If we cannot resolve the dispute within 30 days, either party may pursue formal legal remedies.

12. Changes to These Terms

SCRL reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. When we make changes:

  • We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page
  • For significant changes, we will provide notice via email or website announcement
  • Continued use of our Services after changes constitutes acceptance

We encourage you to review these Terms periodically. If you do not agree to modified Terms, you must stop using our Services.

13. Miscellaneous Provisions

13.1 Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and any other policies referenced herein, constitute the entire agreement between you and SCRL regarding use of our Services.

13.2 Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.

13.3 Waiver

Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms will not constitute a waiver of such right or provision.

13.4 Assignment

You may not assign or transfer these Terms or your rights under these Terms without our prior written consent. SCRL may assign these Terms without restriction.
