Hear from students, coaches, and schools who have experienced the transformative power of competitive robotics. These success stories showcase how participation in SCRL programs develops not just technical skills, but confidence, leadership, and a passion for lifelong learning.
When Lincoln High School joined SCRL in 2019 with just 8 students and zero robotics experience, nobody imagined they would become state champions within three years. Under Coach Martinez's leadership and with support from our mentorship program, the team grew to 45 members and earned 1st place at the 2022 State Championship.
"Joining SCRL was the best decision we made for our STEM program," says Principal Johnson. "We've seen dramatic improvements in student engagement, math and science scores, and college acceptances. Three team members are now studying engineering at top universities, including MIT and Stanford."
Maria Rodriguez joined SCRL as a shy freshman with no technical background. "I didn't even know how to code," she remembers. Through our beginner workshops and mentorship program, Maria discovered a passion for robotics that transformed her academic path.
By junior year, Maria was team captain, leading her team to regional finals and earning the Excellence in Programming Award. She's now studying Computer Science at UC Berkeley on a full scholarship. "SCRL taught me that I can learn anything if I'm willing to work hard. It changed my life," says Maria.
"SCRL showed me that engineering isn't just for people who grew up building things. It's for anyone willing to learn, collaborate, and persevere. I'm proof of that."
Since 2014, we've been building the future one robot at a time. Our numbers tell the story of commitment to excellence, growth, and student success in STEM education.

"I was intimidated at first, but the mentors and beginner workshops made it so accessible. Within months, I was programming our robot and teaching new members. It built my confidence tremendously."
"The teamwork and problem-solving skills I developed in robotics have been invaluable. It's more than just building robots – it's about learning to collaborate and persevere through challenges."
"As a coach, SCRL provides everything I need: curriculum support, mentor connections, and well-organized competitions. My students are more engaged in STEM than ever before."
"SCRL transformed our school's STEM program. We went from having no robotics to fielding three competitive teams. The impact on student engagement and college readiness has been remarkable."
"I've watched my daughter grow from a quiet freshman to a confident team leader. Robotics gave her technical skills, but more importantly, it gave her belief in herself."
"Best extracurricular investment we made. Not only did it prepare our son for engineering school, but he developed lifelong friendships and learned valuable life lessons about teamwork."
"Supporting SCRL aligns perfectly with our mission to develop future tech talent. The professionalism of their events and the enthusiasm of the students make this a rewarding partnership."

A robotics competition is an exciting event where student teams design, build, and program robots to complete specific challenges. Teams compete in alliance matches, skills challenges, and demonstrate their robots to judges. It's a fun way to apply STEM concepts while developing teamwork and problem-solving skills.
Students aged 12-18 can participate in our programs. We have two competition divisions: Middle School (ages 12-14) and High School (ages 15-18). No prior robotics experience is required! We welcome beginners and provide comprehensive training to get you started.
Team registration fees vary based on program level, typically ranging from $150-$400 per season. This includes competition entry, training workshops, and access to mentors. Additional costs may include robot parts and equipment, though we offer equipment sharing programs and financial assistance for families in need.
No! We welcome students of all skill levels. Our beginner workshops teach everything from basic robot assembly to programming fundamentals. Many of our most successful teams started with zero experience. What matters most is curiosity, willingness to learn, and commitment to your team.
Teams need a robot kit (VEX Robotics systems recommended), basic tools, and a laptop for programming. Depending on your school or organization, you may have access to shared equipment. We can provide guidance on equipment purchases and connect you with our equipment sharing program to reduce initial costs.
Our main competition season runs from September through April. Teams typically meet 2-3 times per week for practice and robot development. The season includes multiple regional qualifying tournaments, with top teams advancing to state championships in April. Summer workshops and camps are also available.
